Indie artist and producer Charlie Steady releases his sophomore album, Magpie (The Adventures of a Musical Monomyth). The ambitious 27-track double-album is a bold concept-driven narrative exploring identity, creativity, and transformation through the lens of a character named Magpie — a dreamer and musician searching for meaning in The Big City.
“This album is an ambitious and idiosyncratic narrative/concept album about the adventures of Magpie,” says Steady. “A monomyth musician who goes on a journey of self-discovery and lasting change.”
Steady and longtime collaborator Kyle John Silva co-produced the album with an eye toward both extravagance and intimacy.
Songs like “Magpie,” “Greyhound,” “The Big City,” and “I Want a Biographer” showcase the album’s stylistic range and narrative ambition — blending character-driven storytelling with infectious hooks and orchestral flourishes. Each track is a chapter in a journey that reflects not only the inner world of its titular character, but also Steady’s own reflections on creativity, disillusionment, and personal growth in his late 20s.
